Morse - DAR 2 Improv video
Written by Laurent
Tuesday, 18 July 2006

Following the recent release of their new production and scratch tool, 'Dialogue and Random vol2', the guys at TGOS have just released a video of Morse doing a little improvised track using a copy of the record, a Boss RC-20 loop pedal and a tape echo.
Ideal to give you an idea of what the record can be used for check the video below or directly on youtube.com. And then get yourself over to www.thegrooveofsatyre.com where you can find more info about the crew and record, as well as get your hands on a copy (vinyl or digital) of it or its predecessor DAR 1. For the UK heads check www.dj2tall.com as the man is selling copies for 10.99+p&p, the only spot in the UK where you can get them. Look out for an upcoming review of the record from 2tall as well as more audio showcasing what can be done with it - coming very soon. In the meantime enjoy the video and don't forget you can check an exclusive track 2tall made using DAR 1 last year in our downloads section.

The Return of Dr. Octagon promo mix by Mike Relm

As some of you might have heard already, the rumours are true and the good Dr Octagon aka Kool Keith is back. Having been killed by another of Keith's alter egos after the release of the seminal Dr. Octagonecologyst album ten years ago, it seems that Keith has well and truly revived what is possibly his most famous alter ego and is preparing to unleash a new album on the unsuspecting masses.
Now for those of you, who like me, hold the first Octagon album as one of the finest of the last decade this new release might a/ come as a bit of a shock, and b/ leave you wondering if it's really such a good move. After all you'd be hard pressed to top such a classic LP. So to help you make your mind, without having to buy anything here's a free promo mix of the new album, to give you an idea of what to expect. The mix comes courtesy of Mike Relm, who's been quite busy of late with various live shows, DVD-J scratching and other releases.
Follow all the links below to get your hands on the mix, or check the downloads section on the right hand side. And make your own mind up as to whether or not the good doctor should have been resurrected. For me the jury's still out, but I ain't holding much hope based on what I've already heard.

Download Mike Relm's 'The Return of Dr Octagon' promo mix here(right click and save as. mp3 file, 30mb). 'The Return of Dr Octagon' will be released on OCD, in late August 06 featuring production from Sunn Watts. Remixes by Prefuse 73, Kid Loco, Rob Sonic, Skinnyman and more will be made available online in the weeks prior to the release. Hit up thereturnofdroctagon.com for more info.

Kid Koala - Your Mom's Favourite DJ

Yet another forthcoming album that escaped our recent releases news is the brand new offering from Kid Koala, the multi-talented Canadian DJ, producer, turntablist, artist and writer.
Kid Koala aka Eric San will be releasing his 3rd solo album, 'Your Mom's Favourite DJ', on Ninja Tune in late September this year on vinyl, CD and digital format. In his own words the new LP is like his famous mixtape, "Scratch Happy Land", for the kids who weren't there the first time but with new Koala productions instead. This album will display what he's learnt in the last 10 years and a look forward to more esoteric directions he will take in the next 10. Make of that what you will!
Having been a fan of the Koala man for many years, we've no doubt that this will indeed be something different. Our copy is in the post, so we'll have more info, extracts and what not shortly both on here and Turntable Radio.

Following on from the recent release news here are some links to videos of recent tracks by DJ Baku and DJ Klock in Japan. The videos are hosted by Space Shower TV, a Japanese online music TV station.

The first one is from DJ Klock who is releasing a new album, 'San', this September. We've got a package on its way with the album, as well as recent releases such as the Rainbow Trilogy, that includes an all-scratched album under his Turntabrush moniker. The Rainbow Trilogy releases also feature amazing artwork from Kenji Hitara (member of the famous Barnstormers graffiti crew). News of Klock's releases reached us after our recent releases update so keep an eye out on the site for a full run down of what this man's been up to. He's been real busy and it's definitely some different shit. The new album, and some previous releases, are available in the US through Ropeadope and Europe through Rumraket.
The video also features artwork by Kenji Hitara and can be viewed by clicking this link (video is embeded in the page and plays with windows Media Player).

The other videos are from DJ Baku, who is releasing his first solo Lp, 'Spinheddz', this month on Pop-Group recordings. For the occasion Space Shower are featuring a whole bunch of DJ Baku music videos and live clips, which you can check here. Amongst them is a video for the new single, Spinstreet.
For more info on DJ Klock's forthcoming releases check Clockwise Records and for Baku check Pop-Group Recordings. And don't forget to check our special Japanese music feature and exclusive interview with DJ Baku, both of which you can find by following the links in the right hand side menu.

I Riffs video added to Downloads section!
Written by Laurent
Friday, 16 June 2006

A new video has been added to the downloads section (link to the section is on the right hand side menu). This video comes courtesy of Tayone and T-Turn over in Italy, and features I Riffs, a new live outfit that includes Tayone, Max Dall'Omo, Bruno Briscik, Gopher and guest Djs. This video was taken from a recent live show they performed in Bologna, in November last year, with Excess from Styluswars (US).
Tayone & Excess are on turnables, while Max Dall'Omo is on drums and Bruno Briscik on Electric Cello with Gopher on hosting duties. The show was an open mic event. More footage from this show will be available on the upcoming 'Cuts of Culture' vol 2 CD/DVD compilation (check our recent Updated Releases news item for more info on that and all other releases upcoming this year). Also look out for Tayone and Skizo's 'Bungalow Zen' project, as their album is nearly finished and should be dropping soon. Also peep some footage from another live project Tayone is involved in, called Gli Originali, over at Youtube.
For more info please check djtayone.com, styluswars.com and t-turn.com. Massive thanks go to Crs, Tay and Excess for letting us use the footage. It's also available for streaming on Youtube.com or just stream from the video above.
