New Downloads - Bichi & Tatsuki

As announced earlier on in the week, we've got some new downloads to kick start the new year, courtesy of Tatsuki & Bichi. You may remember the names from our recent Japanese scene article, which covered the new artists coming out of the Tokyo and Japan underground. Tatsuki works with the Danish band Blue Foundation and has in the past collaborated with DJ Krush, Baku and was a part of the Whakhakha turntable band.
Tatsuki is one of the artists we featured in the article, a Japanese DJ and producer who is currently residing in London and Copenhagen, and he was kind enough to supply us with 2 tracks from his forthcoming LP as well as a track from the Bichi album, which is a separate project from Danish producer Tobias Wilner on which Tatsuki collaborated.
The Bichi track is taken from the 'Notwithstanding' album, which came out last year on Hobby Industries. Tobias is also a part of the band 'Blue Foundation' with Tatsuki, and this side project explores different electronic soundscapes and ideas, with a definite minimal and experimental touch to it.
The Tatsuki tracks, as mentioned, are taken from his forthcoming solo LP, 'Invent', which is due out later this year and will feature a host of Japanese DJs and producers. We'll have more info on that in due time, and you can also look forward to an interview with Tatsuki as well as a special Turntable Radio podcast featuring an exclusive mix from the man and a selection of music from Japan.
For more info on Tatsuki hit up the Blue Foundation website as well as Tatsuki's blog and don't forget to check our Japan feature. You can find the tracks by heading over to the Downloads Section which you'll find on the menu to the right of the screen. Many thanks to Tatsuki for letting us put these tracks online!

From 05 to 06 - Rundown and Runup

So 2005 is firmly behind us now, with 2006 straight ahead, a year that will hopefully continue to bring good things to the tablist, scratch DJ, whatever you call it, scene and artform. Things change, people move on, but one thing stays the same: and that's the music being made.
I know we're a bit late, but here's a quick rundown of 05 and runup look at 06 from us here at Spin Science. We didn't really have the time to do a yearly roundup as per before, so instead here's a short one and keep an eye on the site in the coming days as we'll be adding some new music to the downloads section, and dropping various news about artists, labels and what's coming up in the first part of the year. And of course, best wishes for this new year to each and everyone of you and many thanks for making this site what it is, it just wouldn't be the same without ya'll!

Noisy Stylus live video with jazz band
Written by Laurent

German crew Noisy Stylus, who released their Table Manners LP a few months back, have just put online a video of a recent live jam with a band from the Cologne music college. The video was filmed at the 'Cologne Jazz Night' on the 30th of november, where Noisy Stylus performed a selection of songs from their album with the band, in front of a seated audience. The night was a success, and the audience got their first taste of scratching, which could have been worse!
If you've heard the album then you'll see that the compositions have been changed to reflect the addition of the musicians (which total 10 I think, including a horns section) but stay true to the originals. And to be honest it makes a damn fine and entertaining watch and listen. So to get yours on just right click on the following link and save as. The file is Windows Media Format and around 40mb - Noisy Stylus - Live in Cologne. And don't forget to check the crew's site for more info on them and their recent Table Manners LP, which is also available from the Skratchshop for those of you in the UK.

DJs for Life - The Aftermath
Written by Laurent

Finally after months of anticipation for some of us, DJs for Life has come and gone. The UK's biggest gathering of DJ culture pioneers, legends and current leaders was a resounding success. Jazzy Jay, Grand Wizard Theodore (creator of the scratch), Steve Dee (creator of beat juggling), Rob Swift, D-Styles, DJ Quest, Woody, Tigerstyle, Skully, 2tall were amongst those present who shared their experience, knowledge and work with the public. Over 2 days, The Drum Arts Center in Birmingham was taken over for panels, seminars, masterclasses and talks, all of which went down superbly well. A whole mix of people in the audience, from beginners to pros and people who came to learn about the artform and culture, contributed to the success, and the panelists and chairs (including Gizmo from Skratchworx, Christie Z Pabon and myself) also held it down brilliantly. Those panels and seminars covered a whole range of subjects from routines to new equipment, the use of effects and loop pedals to the early battles and jams and more. The Arts Center also held stands where people could come and test new equipment, have a cut, talk and jam with everyone including many of the attendees.
